Attorney Biography for Portland, Oregon Lawyer Drew Baumchen

Portland, Oregon lawyer Drew Baumchen focuses his practice on the defense of DUII and other criminal charges, accident and personal injury cases, and general civil litigation.

Wasco County Courthouse in The Dalles, OregonDrew entered private practice in 2008 after spending nearly four years working as a Deputy District Attorney for the Wasco County District Attorney's Office in The Dalles, Oregon.  While in the District Attorney's office, Drew prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases at nearly all levels, including a large number of DUII cases.  He also proved himself as an effective trial attorney by handling a substantial number of jury trials, and quickly earned the respect of lawyers, judges, and the police.  Drew was also well-known for his legal analysis and reasoning and became an authority on criminal law and procedural issues in both the county where he worked and around the state.  Judges and fellow lawyers would frequently ask Drew to analyze legal issues and provide an opinion, knowing that they could rely on his advice and expertise.

Before graduating from law school at the University of Oregon, Drew gained practical experience in criminal and DUII law by working as an intern at the District Attorney's Offices in Bend, Corvallis, and Eugene, Oregon.  As a law student, Drew was fortunate to enough to spend countless hours in court and try almost a dozen criminal cases by the time he took the bar exam.

In addition to his practical experience in law school, Drew studied a wide variety of subjects and took courses in every area of law that is tested on the Oregon bar exam.  While Drew's practice focuses primarily on criminal and DUII cases, he knew, even as a law student, that a truly great lawyer understands the law as a whole and that knowledge of many areas of law increases a lawyer's effectiveness in even the most specialized areas of practice. However, Drew focused his law school coursework on criminal law and procedure and excelled in his studies in those areas.

Drew received his undergraduate education at the University of Oregon, as well, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in Political Science.  As an undergraduate student, Drew took courses in law, criminal justice, and civil rights, aspiring to be one of Oregon's top criminal defense and trial attorneys.
